Veda Knox

In 1965, when the Booker T. Washington school for negros closed because of integration the special education department moved into the building and made it a special education learning center. In 1972 the Veda Knox Special Education Learning Center opened and stayed open until 1993. Principals included Grace Atherton, Gwen Wilkins, Marlene Harper and Karen Hill.

In 2001, the board of trustees chose to honor Veda Knox once again by naming a new elementary school after her. The spirit of Veda Knox lives on today in Veda Knox Elementary School.
